Theft and Vandalism of Municipal Assets is a Criminal Offence

Dear Residents of Beaufort West.

The Municipality wishes to strongly remind all residents that the theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure is a serious criminal offence.

Municipal assets such as water pipes, electricity cables, streetlights and other infrastructure are provided to improve service delivery, enhance quality of life and protect the dignity of our communities. When these assets are damaged or stolen, it directly affects every resident.

It has become a growing concern that some individuals are unlawfully removing municipal property and selling it. We also remind members of the public that purchasing stolen goods is equally a criminal offence.

We call on all residents to work together with the Municipality by:

• Protecting public infrastructure
• Reporting any suspicious activities
• Refusing to buy stolen goods

The Municipality will not hesitate to open criminal cases against offenders. Those found guilty may face heavy fines and/or imprisonment.

Let us stand together to protect what belongs to all of us.
